Reel in Trophy Reds: VA Beach Inshore Action

Ready to chase some monster Redfish in Virginia Beach? You're in for a treat with this 4 or 6 hour inshore fishing charter. We're talking about serious angling here, folks - the kind where you might need to cancel your evening plans 'cause you'll be too busy showing off photos of your catch. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just getting your feet wet, Captain Preston and the crew at Puttin'n Sportsfishing know how to put you on the fish. So grab your lucky hat and let's hit the flats for some rod-bending action!

What to Expect on the Water

This ain't your average boat ride, partner. We're talking about a full-on Redfish hunt in some of Virginia Beach's most productive inshore waters. You'll be cruising the flats, creeks, and channels where the big boys like to hang out. The beauty of this trip is its flexibility - choose between a 4 or 6 hour adventure depending on how much time you want to spend chasing tails. And let me tell you, once you hook into a bull Red, you'll be glad you opted for the longer trip. We provide top-notch gear, but feel free to bring your own lucky rod if you've got one. Just remember, these fish fight hard, so make sure you've had your Wheaties!

Tactics for Tailing Reds

Alright, let's talk strategy. When it comes to Redfish, we've got a few tricks up our sleeves. We might start by sight-casting in the shallows, looking for those telltale tails waving above the surface. If the fish are being shy, we'll switch it up and start drifting with live bait or throwing some artificial lures. Soft plastics, spoons, and topwater plugs can all do the trick when the Reds are feeling frisky. And here's a pro tip: when you see that line start to zip, don't set the hook too early. Let the fish take it and turn, then lean back and hold on tight. These bulldogs of the flats will give you a workout, guaranteed.

What Anglers Are Saying

Don't just take my word for it - check out what some of our recent guests had to say about their trips:

"Capt was great put us on the fish" - Jim

"We had a great time. I had a 5 year old, and a 11year. Which is a slight challenge. Preston done great with them. And they had a great time. Would definitely go back out." - Craig

"Booked a last minute bday trip for my husband and his buddies (all but one experienced) and they had a blast! Captain was knowledgeable and made sure everyone had a great time! They caught 27 and said they'd definitely book again! Thanks captain Preston!" - Natalie

All About Redfish

Let's chat about our star of the show - the mighty Redfish, also known as Red Drum. These copper-colored beauties are the pride of Virginia Beach inshore fishing. They can grow to over 50 inches and weigh up to 90 pounds, though most of the ones we catch are in the 20-40 inch range. What makes Reds so fun to catch? For starters, they put up one heck of a fight. When hooked, they'll make powerful runs that'll have your drag singing. They're also smart fish - they'll try to wrap you around structures or head for deeper water, so you've got to stay on your toes.

Redfish are year-round residents in Virginia Beach, but the fall is when things really heat up. From September through November, big schools of bull Reds move into the Chesapeake Bay and along the coast, chasing bait and fattening up for winter. This is when you've got the best shot at landing a real trophy. But don't count out the other seasons - spring and summer can offer great sight-fishing opportunities in the shallows, while winter can produce some monster fish for those willing to brave the cold.

One of the coolest things about Redfish is their versatility. They'll eat just about anything that swims or crawls, from crabs and shrimp to mullet and menhaden. This makes them a blast to target with a variety of techniques. Whether you're chunking bait, throwing lures, or fly fishing, there's a way to catch Reds that'll suit your style. And let's not forget about their table quality - if you decide to keep a slot-sized fish, you're in for some mighty fine eating.

Why Anglers Keep Coming Back

Folks, there's a reason why Virginia Beach is a top-rated destination for Redfish anglers. It's not just about the quantity of fish (though we've got plenty), it's about the quality of the experience. Picture yourself on a calm morning, the sun just peeking over the horizon, when suddenly your rod doubles over. The fight is on, and for the next few minutes, it's just you and that big Red, locked in an aquatic tug-of-war. Win or lose, it's the kind of moment that keeps anglers coming back year after year.

But it's not just about the fish. It's about the camaraderie on the boat, the stories shared, and the skills learned. Maybe you'll pick up a new knot or learn to read the water better. Or maybe you'll just enjoy a day away from the grind, surrounded by the beauty of Virginia's coastal waters. Whatever your reason for coming, I can promise you this - a day chasing Reds with us is a day well spent.

Time to Book Your Spot

Alright, let's cut to the chase - if you're itching to get out on the water and tangle with some hard-fighting Redfish, now's the time to lock in your trip. Our 4 and 6 hour charters are perfect for anglers who want to maximize their time on the fish, whether you're a local looking for a quick fix or a visitor wanting to make the most of your Virginia Beach stay. Remember, we can accommodate up to 4 anglers, so bring your buddies or make it a family affair.

Don't forget, while we're primarily after Redfish, Virginia Beach waters are teeming with other species too. Depending on the season, you might also run into some Speckled Trout, Flounder, or even the occasional Cobia. It's all part of the adventure!

So what are you waiting for? Grab your phone, give us a call, and let's get your Virginia Beach fishing adventure on the calendar. Trust me, the only thing you'll regret is not booking sooner. See you on the water!

Redfish

Redfish, or red drum, are one of our top inshore targets here in Virginia Beach. These copper-colored bruisers typically run 20-40 inches, with some real monsters pushing 50+ pounds. You'll find them cruising the shallows - we're talking 1-4 feet of water - around oyster beds, grass flats, and channel edges. Fall's prime time as they school up to spawn, but we catch 'em year-round. Reds put up a great fight, often making long runs and even tailing on the surface. They're also excellent eating fish with a mild, sweet flavor. To hook into one, we'll use everything from live bait to topwater lures. Here's a local tip: on calm days, look for their backs and tails breaking the surface as they root for crabs in the shallows. Sight-casting to these fish is a rush you won't forget.
